Shirley Hartung is a retired teacher. She lives in Kitchener with her husband Doug. They are parents to two adult sons and grandparents to granddaughter Ava and grandson Troy. Shirley is the author of several specialty diet cookbooks of which she has sold 45,000 copies. She enjoys writing for children as well as short stories for adults that are often based in rural and small town settings. In addition, she has written Love Stories, her mother’s life story. Shirley has also written her first novel entitled GROUNDED along with a 70 page activity book to accompany it. These can be bought as a kit or individually. The story although appropriate for grades 3-5 may be of interest to adults as well. The activity book includes projects for the reluctant learner as well as for students requiring extra challenges. Although the novel tells the story of polio as seen through the eyes of children, it is really about how children cope with difficult things that come into their life through no fault of their own. Shirley has recently taken up quilting as a hobby. Doug and Shirley attend Waterloo Mennonite Brethren Church in Waterloo.
